Human Being is the supreme creature of nature. And nature created it by defining each and every part in detail. What we do very easily, robots need so much effort to perform the same task. We walk, run, grab, feel and do many tasks very easily. But for a robot to perform any task it is required to have thousands of lines of code. And still, they do not perform as sophisticated as humans can perform.
To make you realize how much effort did nature made to create us. I shall discuss somebody’s organs of humans and how difficult it is for humans to create them for robots. In this article, I shall discuss organs above our neck.
At first, I shall start with the most complex machine of the world i.e. human brain. It is so complex that till now we do not know many things about it.
Human beings understood that to build a machine intelligent it has to be provided with intelligence. And therefore, Artificial Intelligence began.
At the conference at Dartmouth College, in Hanover, New Hampshire the term “artificial intelligence” was coined in 1956 first time. And from then it has emerged as one of the revolutionary technology like electricity. It has evolved to large extent in 70-80 years. But still, it lags behind human intelligence too much. It might have beaten humans in some cases such as in 2011 IBM Watson won Jeopardy, in 2013 DeepMind beat Atari, and there are few more in this list. But this is concentrated in some of the specific fields only such as games etc.
Now human has also focused on hardware. And therefore they have worked on artificial minds, robotics mind. This field of robotics is called neurorobotics. It was started in the 1980s and has grown to quite an impressive level. But still, it is too far to mimic the exact human brain. And it might take even centuries to develop a mind that can resemble the human mind.
These neurorobots do not perform all the tasks. For motor control and locomotion, for learning and memory systems, for value systems and action control, there are different neurorobots. So, you can realize the complexity, reliability, robustness of our mind by fact that our single brain function all these tasks very easily.
Next, the organ in this list is the eyes. Eyes are very useful. Their evolution is also very complex and it also took a very long time. Now, humans might have developed very advanced cameras but they cannot match our eyes. Our eyes perform some tasks very easily which present technology cannot perform. For example
- Whenever something tries to get inside our eyes, our eyelids close down.
- Whenever something gets into our eyes tears come out to throw out the unwanted materials.
- Accurate measurement of distance, speed, width, depth, etc is common for them to predict.
Have you heard of any device that can speak? Yes, recent researches have resulted. But what is their efficiency in comparison with the human voice?
Can you name any AI models that can sing? I have not come across any such model. If you would have, then match its efficiency with humans.
I have discussed only three organs. There are many in the list.
We do many things every day which we even do not realize how difficult it is for robots. For at least a century, it is difficult to mimic human beings.
And nature took a very large time to evolve us. And therefore we should be proud of what we are.
